৮ই সেপ্টেম্বর, কলকাতাঃ না, চাঁদের পিঠে নিখোঁজ হয়নি ল্যান্ডার বিক্রম। চাঁদের দক্ষিণ মেরুর ঠিক কোন জায়গায় সে নেমেছে, কক্ষপথে থাকা অরবিটার তা জানতে পেরেছে। এমনকি ছবিও তুলে ফেলেছে চাঁদের দক্ষিণ মেরুতে পা ছোঁয়ানো ল্যান্ডার বিক্রমের।

সবগুলিই ‘থার্মাল ইমেজ’। সেই সব ছবিই অরবিটার বেঙ্গালুরুতে ইসরোর গ্রাউন্ড কন্ট্রোল রুমে পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছে।রবিবার এই সুসংবাদ দিয়েছেন ইসরোর চেয়ারম্যান কে শিবন। তিনি এও জানিয়েছেন, এখনও পর্যন্ত বিক্রমের কাছ থেকে কোনও রেডিয়ো সিগনাল অরবিটারের কাছে পৌঁছয়নি। কিন্তু সে কোথায় নেমেছে, তার খবর যখন পাওয়া গিয়েছে, তখন আশা, শীঘ্রই বিক্রমের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করা সম্ভব হবে।

এখন বুঝে নেওয়া দরকার, থার্মাল ইমেজিং বলতে কী বোঝায়? কোনও ক্যামেরার মাধ্যমে থার্মাল ইমেজিং তখনই সম্ভব হয় যদি কোনও বস্তু থেকে বেরিয়ে আসা ইনফ্রারেড আলোক তরঙ্গের বিকিরণের ভিত্তিতে কোনও ছবি তোলা হয়। এই ইনফ্রারেড আলোক তরঙ্গের বিকিরণ আমাদের শরীর থেকেও প্রতি মুহূর্তে বেরিয়ে আসছে। রাতে নাইট ভিশন ক্যামেরায আমাদের ছবি তোলা হলেও সেই থার্মাল ইমেজিং পদ্ধতিরই সাহায্য নেওয়া হয়।
কী ভাবে বিক্রমের গা থেকে বেরিয়ে আসছে ইনফ্রারেড আলোক তরঙ্গের বিকিরণ?
মোহনপুরের ইন্ডিয়ান ইন্সটিটিউট অব সায়েন্স এডুকেশন অ্যান্ড রিসার্চ (আইসার-কলকাতা)-এর বিশিষ্ট সৌরপদার্থবিজ্ঞানী অধ্যাপক দিব্যেন্দু নন্দী জানাচ্ছেন, সূর্যের পিঠ থেকে বেরিয়ে আসা আলো প্রতি মুহূর্তেই এসে আছড়ে পড়ছে চাঁদ, পৃথিবী-সহ এই সৌরমণ্ডলের সব গ্রহে উপগ্রহেই। যে গ্রহের বায়ুমণ্ডল রয়েছে সেখানে সেই সূর্যের আলোর কিছুটা অংশ শোষিত হয়। কিন্তু চাঁদের কোনও বায়ুমন্ডল নেই তাই সূর্যের আলো, সূর্য থেকে বেরিয়ে আসা সব ধরনের বিকিরণ পুরোপুরিই এসে আছড়ে পরে চাঁদের পিঠে। চাঁদের দক্ষিণ মেরুতে পা ছোঁয়ানো বিক্রমের গায়েও এসে পড়েছে সূর্যের আলো। তাতে বিক্রমের গা গরম হয়েছে। তার মানে তাপের সৃষ্টি হয়েছে। তাপ এক ধরনের শক্তি। শক্তির ধর্ম এক শক্তি থেকে অন্য শক্তিতে বদলে যাওয়া। তাই গা গরম হওয়া বিক্রমের সেই বাড়তি তাপশক্তি ইনফ্রারেড আলোকশক্তিতে বদলে গিয়েছে। তৈরি করেছে ইনফ্রারেড আলোক তরঙ্গ। সেই তরঙ্গের মাধ্যমেই চন্দ্রযান-২-এ থাকা অরবিটার থার্মাল ইমেজ নিয়েছে বিক্রমের।
থার্মাল ইমেজের মাধ্যমে বিক্রম অক্ষত শরীরে রয়েছে কি না, বোঝা সম্ভব হবে?
পুনের ইন্টার-ইউনিভার্সিটি সেন্টার ফর অ্যাস্ট্রোনমি অ্যান্ড অ্যাস্ট্রোফিজিক্স (আয়ুকা)-এর অধ্যাপক, ইসরোর ‘অ্যাস্ট্রোস্যাট মিশনের’ সায়েন্স অপারেশন বিভাগের প্রধান দীপঙ্কর ভট্টাচার্য বলছেন, ‘‘কতটা সম্ভব তা নিয়ে আমার খুব স্পষ্ট ধারণা নেই। কারণ বিক্রমের আকার এক মিটারের (৩ ফুট ৩ ইঞ্চি) বেশি নয়।অরবিটার এখন রয়েছে চাঁদের পিঠ থেকে ১০১ কিমি উঁচুতে। ওই উচ্চতা থেকে এক মিটার আকারের বিক্রমের ছবি ইনফ্রারেড আলোক তরঙ্গে কতটা নিখুঁত ও স্বচ্ছভাবে অরবিটার তুলতে পেরেছে তা জানতে ও বুঝতে আমাদের আরেকটু সময় লাগবে।’’

চন্দ্রযান-২ এর অরবিটারে থাকা টেরেন ম্যাপিং ক্যামেরা পারে ইনফ্রারেড আলোক তরঙ্গের বিকিরণের ছবি তুলতে যার রেজোলিউশান ১০০ কিলোমিটার উচ্চতা থেকে হতে পারে পাঁচ মিটার। দীপঙ্কর বলছেন, ‘‘ওই উচ্চতা থেকে ওই রেজোলিউশনের ক্যামেরা দিয়ে ল্যান্ডার বিক্রমের চেহারার একটি বস্তুর ছবি তোলা  যেতে পারে। কিন্তু তাঁর গঠনগত খুঁটিনাটির সব কিছু সেই ক্যামেরায় ধরা পড়ার সম্ভাবনা কম।তাই বিক্রম অক্ষত শরীরে আছে কি না বা পুরোপুরি সচল আছে কি না থার্মাল ইমেজিং-এর মাধ্যমে তা বোঝা কিছুটা দুরূহ।’’

বিক্রমের আরও ভাল ছবি তোলার অন্য উপায় রয়েছে?

দীপঙ্কর জানাচ্ছেন, আছে। অরবিটারে দুই ধরনের ক্যামেরা আছে। একটি অপটিক্যাল ক্যামেরা, অন্যটি ইনফ্রারেড ক্যামেরা। দিনের আলোয় আমাদর ছবি তুললে যতটা ঝকঝকে লাগে রাতে নাইট ভিশন ক্যামেরায় ছবি তুললে সেই ছবি কি ততটা স্বচ্ছ হয়? ঠিক সেই ভাবেই আশা করা যায়, অরবিটারের ইনফারেড ক্যামেরা বিক্রমের যে ছবি তুলেছে থার্মাল ইমেজিং-এর মাধ্যমে‌, তার চেয়ে অনেক স্বচ্ছ ও বোধগম্য ছবি পাওয়া যাবে অপটিক্যাল ক্যামেরার মাধ্যমে। সেই কাজটা অরবিটার করে ওঠা পর্যন্ত আমাদের একটু অপেক্ষা করতে হবে। তবে সে ক্ষেত্রেও অপটিক্যাল ক্যামেরা কিন্তু বিক্রমের ছবি পাবে চাঁদের ১০০ কিলোমিটার ওপর থেকে। ফলে অপটিক্যাল ক্যামেরার রেজোলিউশানের অনেকটাই নির্ভর করছে চাঁদের মাটিতে পা ছোঁয়ানো বিক্রমের শরীর স্বাস্থ্যের খবর কতটা নিখুঁত ভাবে পাওয়া যাবে।

এই অপটিক্যাল ক্যামেরার রেজোলিউশন কিন্তু অনেকটাই ভাল (০.৩ মিটার)। দৃশ্যমান আলোক তরঙ্গে চাঁদের মাটিতে পা ছোঁয়ানো বিক্রম কতটা উজ্জ্বল দেখাবে তার ওপরেই অবশ্য নির্ভর করছে অপটিক্যাল ক্যামেরা কতটা স্বচ্ছ ভাবে তার ছবি পাবে।

তবে দীপঙ্কর জানাচ্ছেন এ ছাড়াও আরও একটি ছবি তোলার যন্ত্র রয়েছে অরবিটারে। তার নাম ‘ইনফ্রারেড ইমেজি‌ং স্পেক্ট্রোমিটার’। তবে তার রেজোলিউশান কিন্তু খুবই দুর্বল। মাত্র ৮০ মিটার।

কেউ বলতেই পারেন, অরবিটার তো আর বৃত্তাকার কক্ষপথে প্রদক্ষিণ করছে না চাঁদকে। ঘুরে চলেছে উপবৃত্তাকার কক্ষপথে। যার মানে যখন সে চাঁদের খুব কাছে আসছে তখন সে থাকছে ৯৬ কিলোমিটার দূরে। খুব দূরে থাকলে তার দূরত্ব হচ্ছে ১০১ কিলোমিটার। কিন্তু এই দূরত্বের ব্যবধানটা সামান্যই। মাত্র পাঁচ কিলোমিটার। তাই তার ফলে অপটিক্যাল ক্যামেরায় তোলা বিক্রমের ছবির স্বচ্ছতার যে বিশেষ তারতম্য হবে তেমন আশা করছেন না বিজ্ঞানীরা।

গত ৭ সেপ্টেম্বর ভারতীয় সময় রাত ১টা ৫২ মিনিট ৫৪ সেকেন্ডে চাঁদের দক্ষিণ মেরুতে নামার কথা ছিল বিক্রমের। কিন্তু তার মিনিট কয়েক আগে থেকেই, বিক্রম যখন চাঁদের পিঠ থেকে ২.১ কিমি উঁচুতে, সেই সময়ই অরবিটারের সঙ্গে যাবতীয় যোগাযোগ বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে যায় ল্যান্ডারের। তার পর থেকে বিক্রমের পাঠানো কোনও রেডিয়ো সিগনালই অরবিটারে পৌঁছয়নি।
